SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY

Office of the Eighth Judicial District Attorney Updated 2/14/2025

Social media accounts, like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and others, make it easier for government agencies to quickly inform the public with up-to-date information and policy. The Eighth Judicial District Attorney’s Office has created Social Media Accounts for this purpose. We request that when interacting with our social media accounts please keep in mind that many different viewers see our content and the comments connected to them. If you choose to add to the discussion, please respect each other as well as the members of our office.

We moderate our social media accounts to try to foster healthier discussions in our community when it comes to the content we create. Here are some of the steps we take when it comes to moderating our accounts.

The Eighth Judicial District Attorney’s Office’s Social Media Accounts fall under what’s known as a Nontraditional/Limited/Designated Public Forum and the following restrictions apply:

  • Comments including hateful, threatening, racial, pornographic, defamatory, or any other comments our moderation team feels are obscene and graphic will be hidden.

  • As a public agency, our team does not block anyone from our Social Media Accounts under this policy.

  • Behavior such as harassment, targeting individuals, doxxing, or posting personal information online of members of our community or team will be reported and possibly hidden or removed.

  • We do not allow comments that promote or encourage illegal activity of any kind.

  • Consistent with constitutional standards, we may hide or remove information that poses a risk of prejudice pending cases.

  • Any material posted to our official social media pages by our Comms team represents the views held by the Office of the Eighth Judicial District Attorney’s Office. We do not control who can share our content, nor do we endorse any opinions or commentary in the comments section.

  • Because we are limited in what comments we may hide or remove, participation is at your own risk.
